History

Many "overdate" varieties exist in this series. Coins of the Matron Head Coronet type that exhibit brilliant or "red" luster are often difficult to locate and usually command premium prices.

Memo

An unofficial 1823 restrike was made (at about the same time as the 1804 restrike and possibly by the same people) using a 1823 obverse die and an 1813 reverse die that had been discarded from the mint.
