2000 Alphonse Desjardins 10 Cent Sterling Silver Coin

Theme: The network of credit unions
that exists throughout North America can be credited to vision of one man
—Alphonse Desjardins. His mission: to bring desperately needed financial
protection to the working class. On December 6, 1900, Desjardins used his
home in Lévis, Québec to open North America’s first credit union and
the Mouvement Desjardins began.
Design: The Victorian architecture
typical of that time is painstakingly reproduced in this depiction of
Desjardin’s home built between 1881 and 1884.
Artist: Master engravers at the
Royal Canadian Mint adapted a painting by Quebec artist Jean-Guy Lebel to
create this design.
